A 15-minute session includes 15 edited photos, a 30-minute session includes 35, and a full hour includes 70. I often end up creating even more good images than the number included in your session. When that happens, you can see the larger gallery, choose the photos included with your package, and purchase additional favorites only if you want them.
Your finished gallery is normally ready in 2-5 days.
Your vacation is short. The photos should be easy
You do not need a planning call and a week of emails to arrange family photos while you are in Sarasota.
You can see available times, choose your session, and reserve it online. Once you book, you receive the information you need for the location and the session.
If you have a particular beach, resort, rental home, or idea in mind, just let me know. We can decide together what makes the most sense.
And if you are already in Sarasota and suddenly decide you want photos tomorrow, or even later the same day, send me a text. If I have an opening, I will always try to make it work.
Family vacation photography on the Sarasota coast
I usually try to get the important full-family photographs early, while everyone still has patience.
After that, especially with younger children, I do not spend the whole session asking them to stand still and smile at me.
If they want to play in the sand or run toward the water, I let them.
Then I start following what is actually happening - parents with the kids, little reactions, movement, hugs, games, and the moments that are much harder to create when everyone is staring at the camera.
Sometimes I deliberately start photographing the parents and stop paying attention to the children for a few minutes. It is funny how often that makes the kids suddenly decide that they want to be part of the photos too.
There are a lot of small ways to work with children without turning a vacation evening into a battle over pictures.
Where I photograph visiting families
Siesta Key - convenient for families staying on Siesta Key and the location where I offer short 15- and 30-minute mini sessions.
Lido Key - an easy option for families staying near Lido Key, St. Armands Circle, or downtown Sarasota.
Longboat Key - especially convenient if your resort, condo, or rental is already on the island. Depending on where you are staying, we can photograph around the property and then continue toward the beach.
Anna Maria Island - a good choice when your vacation is based farther north and you would rather photograph close to where you are staying.
I photograph at busy beaches too. If there are distracting people behind your family, I remove them from the finished photographs when needed. A crowded beach does not have to look crowded in your final gallery.
Choose the session that fits your trip
For something quick, 15- and 30-minute mini sessions are available on Siesta Key from $200.
The 15-minute session includes 15 edited images.
The 30-minute session includes 35 edited images.
For more time, more variety, a larger family, or another location, a full one-hour session starts from $350 and includes 70 edited images.
And 70 does not necessarily mean I stop creating photographs at number 70.
A good hour can easily produce many more images that I want you to see. If your final selection gallery contains more photographs than your package includes, you choose your included images first. They are already paid for.
If there are additional photographs you love, you can purchase individual images or upgrade to more of the gallery directly online. It is completely optional.
Staying in a resort or vacation rental?
Yes, we can often start right where you are staying.
For a resort session, I can meet your family in the lobby. From there, we can walk through the property and use any interesting architecture, gardens, walkways, or other areas that you like before continuing toward the beach.
Some resorts require permission for an outside photographer. If your property has that rule, the easiest solution is usually for the registered guest to ask the front desk in advance and arrange the necessary permission.
If you are staying in a vacation home or Airbnb, we are not limited to the beach either.
Sometimes the better story is your family at the house - children around the pool, everyone hanging out together, jumping into the water, or moving between the home and the beach.
These sessions can also give us more freedom with timing. A rental property may have shaded areas where we can photograph comfortably outside the usual sunrise or sunset window.
Tell me where you are staying and what you have in mind, and we can decide whether the property, the beach, or a combination of both makes more sense.
Large and multigenerational family vacations
When grandparents, adult children, cousins, and grandchildren are all traveling together, I approach the session differently.
We start with the combinations that require everybody while the entire group is together.
Then we can break into individual families, grandparents with grandchildren, siblings, couples, children, and whatever combinations matter to your family.
With a large group, I am not trying to make twenty people stand in one place for the entire session. The goal is to get the important group photographs and then give everyone room to relax.
When during the trip should we schedule photos?
I recommend scheduling your session toward the beginning of your vacation.
Weather is one reason. If Florida decides not to cooperate that evening, we still have time to find another opening instead of discovering the problem on your final night.
There is another very practical reason - sunburn.
After several days on a Florida beach, shoulders, faces, and noses can become noticeably red. If family photos matter to you, it is usually easier to do them before everyone has spent several full days in the sun.
And vacations can simply be tiring. At the beginning of the trip, children and adults are often a little more patient than they are after a week of beaches, restaurants, excursions, and late nights.
So if you have a choice, do not save the session for your last evening.
Sunrise or sunset?
They feel different, and both can work very well.
Sunrise usually means fewer people, a quieter beach, cooler temperatures, and a very different atmosphere. For families with young children who are already awake early, it can actually be the easier option.
Sunset gives you the evening light over the Gulf and the changing sky that people come to Florida hoping to see.
The tradeoff is that beaches are usually busier in the evening.
That does not worry me very much. I work around people while we shoot, and distracting people can be removed from the backgrounds of your finished images.
So the decision is less about which one is "better" and more about which atmosphere and schedule work better for your family.
What happens if the weather changes?
Florida weather forecasts can look much worse than the actual evening.
A rain icon during the day does not automatically mean I cancel the session.
Very often an afternoon shower passes before sunset, the sky opens up, and we end up with great evening light afterward. Because of that, I do not like moving a session too early just because rain appears in the forecast.
If it is a short shower and we have enough time, sometimes we simply wait.
If I arrive and it is clear that the rain is not going to give us a useful window, we do not force the session. We find the nearest available morning or evening that works for both of us.
My priority is simple - I want you to leave Sarasota with the photographs you came for.
This is another reason I recommend scheduling photos early in your vacation instead of waiting until the final evening.
What should we wear?
You can wear almost anything you feel good in. I do not think every family needs to arrive in perfectly coordinated outfits.
I do have two suggestions.
First, I usually would not make everyone wear white. The sand on many of our beaches is already very light, so an entire family dressed in white can start blending into it.
That does not mean white is forbidden. If you love white, wear it. I can use the water, sky, vegetation, or a different angle as the background.
Second, I would avoid making every outfit extremely bright or heavily patterned. When several strong colors and patterns are competing in one photograph, the clothes can start getting more attention than the people.
Other than that, choose something that feels like your family and that you can actually walk, sit, and play in.

If you already know exactly where you want to photograph, tell me. If you are not sure, we can talk about where you are staying and choose a location together.
And if you are looking for something very last-minute, send me a text. An online slot may no longer be available to book on short notice, but if I have room in the schedule, I may still be able to photograph you.

How many photos do we receive?
A 15-minute session includes 15 edited photos, a 30-minute session includes 35, and a full one-hour session includes 70.
I often create more finished images than the number included in the package. When that happens, you can view the larger selection, choose the images already included with your session, and optionally purchase additional favorites.
Do we have to buy additional photos?
No.
The number of images included with your session is already part of what you paid for.
If I give you more photographs to choose from and you fall in love with additional images, you can purchase them individually or purchase more of the gallery. If you do not want any extras, simply choose the photographs included in your package.
What if our children do not want to pose?
That is normal.
I usually get a few important family photographs first. After that, I would much rather let children move, play with the sand, go toward the water, and forget about the camera for a while.
I photograph what happens instead of spending the entire session trying to make a child stand still.
Sometimes ignoring the kids and photographing Mom and Dad for a few minutes is surprisingly effective too. Nobody likes feeling left out.
Can we take photos at our resort or Airbnb?
Often, yes.
At a resort, we can potentially use both the property and the beach. Some hotels require photographer permission, so check with your front desk before the session.
At a vacation rental, we can also photograph around the house or pool if that better represents your trip.
Can we book after we arrive in Sarasota?
Yes, if I have availability.
You can see open sessions online. For very last-minute or same-day requests, send me a text and I will tell you if I can fit the session in.
What if it rains?
Do not panic because you see rain in the forecast.
Florida showers often pass quickly. If conditions improve, we continue as planned. If the weather genuinely prevents us from shooting, I will work with you to find the nearest available time during your trip.
That is why booking toward the beginning of your vacation gives us the most flexibility.
